Glowbird traces its beginnings to the asphalt heat wave known as LA’s San Fernando Valley. Encased in a tiny Pacoima backhouse, Steve Dodd began writing songs that would eventually lead to Glowbird’s definitive sound. After a turbulent California courtship, however, Dodd was determined to leave behind his golden state ambitions and try the opposite coast.

During this crossroad of Dodd’s life, he befriended Ray Rosas, a guitarist and effects-guru, at a local non-profit they worked at. The two started sharing musical ideas, past life experiences, and a yearning for authentic expression. A close friendship and creative partnership quickly developed, causing Dodd to reconsider his departure to the east. In a blurry Las Vegas tiki bar, Dodd and Rosas drafted their vision of what Glowbird would eventually become: introspective power-folk infused with lush guitar textures and vocal harmonies.

Glowbird spent the next year composing; Dodd crafted a new batch of catchy melodies, while Rosas developed his own palette of moods and shades. In the fall of 2011 they recruited Alec Golya, a friend and musical collaborator of Rosas, on bass and began rehearsing and recording their first demo. In 2013, while in search of a new drummer, Christian Johnson, hailing from New Jersey, answered an ad and helped define the Glowbird sound. After a brief break, Christian returned to the band in 2017 as a permanent member. Glowbird currently performs regularly in the Los Angeles area.
